Rosmei Order for Coins of Destiny, the Defectives, and More

I recently put in my first Rosmei preorder, and I’m so excited to (eventually) receive some of these gorgeous books.

Depending on how deep you are down the danmei rabbit hole, you may or may not be familiar with the publisher Rosmei.  For officially licensed U.S. danmei translations, there are a small number of active novel publishers: SevenSeas, Rosmei, and Via Lactea currently.* SevenSeas books are in mass production and can be purchased at many stores on-line and in-person. Rosmei is a little different.  You can learn more about how and where to buy Rosmei books here.

In the U.S. where I currently live, YiggyBean is the only affiliated retailer for Rosmei.  This is my first time purchasing from them, and I finally decided to give it a try for a few reasons:

  • GORGEOUS books: seriously, I’ve seen pictures of the books the publish and they are exquisite in their design.  Just take a look below.
  • Supporting authors: In order to encourage and support the authors who bring me so much joy (and angst), I want to support their work through my purchases, not just reading free fan translations
  • Blog!: now that I have a blog, I have a great excuse to show off

Okay now let me show off what I bought and why:

Nan Chan vols. 1 & 2 by Tang Jiuqing
(唐酒卿): The amnesiac immortal Jing Lin has been recovering in seclusion on a mountain for centuries with only a carp for company. The carp, Cang Ji, has human-level intelligence and gains a human form after drinking Jing Lin’s blood. After a valuable artifact goes missing, Jing Lin and Cang Ji must journey to retrieve it while facing trials themed around Buddhist philosophy. (Description from DanmeiNews, image from YiggyBean)

Coins of Destiny vol. 1 by priest: The young Cheng Qian becomes a disciple of the dying Fuyao Sect. There he meets Yan Zhengming, who is as proud as a peacock with talents to match. With their fellow disciples, they train as cultivators in hopes of saving their sect from fading further into obscurity. (Description from DanmeiNews’ series catalogue entry, image from YiggyBean)

Global Examination vol. 1 by Mu Su Li
(木苏里): The whole world is subjected to a highly dangerous standardised exam called the Global Examination. Answering questions by putting their lives at stake, they would live if they passed the test. Every month the exam will undergo reformation while, occasionally, it is random. The Defectives vol. 1 by priest: In the distant spacefaring future, humanity has colonized the stars. Most humans have become completely dependent on the all-powerful artificial intelligence known as EDEN, whose command extends across seven galaxies. Humans who are unable to interface with EDEN live in isolation in the Eighth Galaxy, which is ruled by the tyranny of the strong. One day, Eighth Galaxy resident Lu Bixing fishes up a mysterious man whom he eventually comes to know as Lin Jingheng, who is on the run and hiding a menagerie of secrets. They quickly become ensnarled in a sprawling drama that will shape humanity for years to come. (Description from DanmeiNews, image from YiggyBean)

Now, as for when they’ll arrive, it’s just a waiting game for now.  I’ll definitely update with pictures and reviews once they arrive!

*There are other publishers who have licensed books but have been embroiled in rights disputes, as well as one publisher that closed their doors recently (RIP Peach Flower House)
