Danmei Mail Day! New TGCF T-Shirt and Season 2 Blu-Ray

Today was a great danmei mail day! I received my pre-order of Heaven Official’s Blessing season 2 blu-ray, and the officially licensed Xie Lian t-shirt from Hot Topic.

First, the blu-ray! Why did I buy this in the first place? I’ve been watching (and re-watching) season 2 of Heaven Official’s Blessing through a Crunchyroll channel subscription on Amazon Prime since it was first released. I’m grateful it exists there at all, but it’s not perfect.

On Crunchyroll I’ve found sub-titling is great for some episodes and worse for others. More oddly, I can’t always control whether or not I view sub-titling and in which language. I would be happy to watch it with English dubbing and no sub-titles, or in the original Chinese with English sub-titles OR in a pinch in Chinese with no sub-titles. My Madnarin Chinese listening level is okkkaaayyyy but given how familiar I am with the story I can probably get by.

However, on Crunchyroll I often am forced to have sub-titles in some language. The Chinese sub-titles don’t match the spoken Chinese, and similarly on episodes with English translations, the English sub-titles don’t match the spoken English exactly. It’s too distracting! So I’m very grateful to have a blu-ray option.

The packaging is superb as well! It’s a beautiful jacket and disc design, and instead of a typical insert it comes with this beautiful array of postcards.

Okay, on to the t-shirt! I bought this during one of Hot Topic’s frequent sales. I waffled between the three different Heaven Official’s Blessing designs they offer, but I just loved the Xie Lian design the most. The fabric is thick and the t-shirt is on the larger size out of the box, but I suspect it will shrink in the wash. No complaints at all–the design is beautiful in-person and I’ve already had one person ask me what show it comes from.
